Glass Sand

Glass is an inert material, which means it does not naturally decompose in landfill environments, leading to the unnecessary occupation of limited landfill space when glass bottles are carelessly discarded. Nevertheless, glass neither pollutes the environment nor poses a risk to human health, making it exceptionally suited for repeated recycling and reuse. Recycled glass bottles are transported to processing facilities where they are crushed into specific-sized fragments of recycled raw material. These can be repurposed into new glass bottles or other glass products, or they can substitute natural materials like river sand in the manufacturing of eco-friendly building materials. This practice of converting waste into resources reduces the demand for natural resource extraction, decreases energy consumption and carbon emissions, and contributes to the development of a local circular economy.

Manufacturing Process of Glass Sand

Glass bottles are processed using Krysteline crushing technology from Implosion systems. After crushing, the glass fragments undergo further sorting to segregate them into three specific sizes: less than 3.35mm, less than 5mm, and between 5mm and 20mm. The system also employs vibration to separate lighter non-glass materials, such as paper or plastic, and removes dust. Metals embedded within the glass pieces, such as aluminum, are sorted using an Eddy Current separator.

Applications of Glass Sand

  • Glass Bottles and Other Glass Products: Glass sand, once crushed and melted, can be reformed into new glass bottles or other types of glass products.
  • Building Materials: Glass sand can replace river sand and is utilized in the production of eco-friendly building materials such as tiles, cement, and road paving, and can even be used in land reclamation and as fill material for public works.
  • Eco-Friendly Green Sandbags: Glass sand replaces traditional sand in sandbags, which are made from environmentally friendly materials and packaged by local sheltered workshop participants.
  • Export: After being crushed and melted, glass sand is transformed into new glass products that are exported abroad.
