“Don’t Sit Back on Climate Change”: Baguio Promotes Climate Action through Everyday Choices
2026-08-20
Baguio’s Sustainability Department successfully hosted the “Climate Change Market” alongside a series of dedicated talks and workshops on 19- 20 August under the theme “Don’t Sit Back on Climate Change”. Centered on the four core aspects of daily life, clothing, food, living and travel, the initiative encouraged colleagues to reflect on the impact of their personal choices on the climate crisis, empowering them to integrate low-carbon practices and climate equity into their daily routines while reinforcing the Group’s internal ESG culture.
The market featured five businesses committed to low-carbon living and climate justice. They offered a wide range of sustainable products, including local organic produce, vegetarian food, second-hand clothing, fair-trade goods and bamboo-pulp tissue. By encouraging employees to leverage their purchasing power, the event supported businesses committed to circular fashion and green supply chains, demonstrating responsible consumer behavior within the corporate community.
In-Depth Exploration Across Four Lifestyle Pillars
To deepen engagement, Baguio partnered with non-profit and professional organizations to deliver workshops covering comprehensive sustainability themes:
- Clothing (Circular Fashion): Environmental NGO Redress hosted the "Behind Fashion" talk, analyzing the environmental impacts of fast fashion and highlighting practical pathways toward a circular fashion model.
- Food (Climate Equity): Fair Trade Hong Kong presented "The Fair Climate Revolution," shedding light on how climate change affects global farmers and supply chains, while demonstrating the critical role of fair trade in mitigating climate risks.
- Living (Disaster Resilience): The Hong Kong Red Cross conducted a "Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Kit Workshop," boosting employees' disaster awareness and emergency response capabilities in the face of extreme weather events.
- Travel (Low-Carbon Mobility): Sustainable tourism initiative V’air led a session titled "Sustainable Tourism," introducing eco-friendly accommodations, ecotourism, and low-carbon travel alternatives to advocate for responsible travel habits.
The event received an overwhelmingly positive response from employees, who engaged in active exchanges with vendors and guest speakers to gain a more understanding of the circular economy, climate resilience, and green lifestyles.
Upholding its commitment to sustainability, Baguio will continue to leverage diverse internal initiatives and cross-sector partnerships to drive tangible employee action in addressing climate change—fully realizing the vision to “Don’t Sit Back on Climate Change”.
